Continuing the discussion from DHW 2023 - don't forget to consider the eHealth Forum!:
Sure! There are a bunch of ways in which the eHealth Forum can be utilised during the HiNZ DHW - or any other digital health conference for that matter.
The chief reason for using the Forum for this (as opposed to Slido, Survey Monkey, etc) is that the content, connections, and conversations can continue after the event. Also, many conference attendees will already have an account.
If you need a hand with any of this stuff, simply post in Support. You might like searching the eHealth Forum first (our search is super powerful).
Before
In the days and weeks leading up to the session, the Forum can be useful as a repository of shared content and pre-event discussion.
Prereading
You can post any pre-reading or other information on the eHealth Forum as a dedicated topic (either as text or an attachment), and share the link with your participants. You can then edit / add to / update them on the fly as needed.
Interaction / Discussion
This is where the Forum excels. Folk can ask questions, discuss things, share things, and request that stuff is covered.
Can be done using a pre-reading Topic, or several. A special area could even be set up for you if you need more ‘space’.
During
Sometimes it is very helpful to use a bit of tech to augment your session. The eHealth Forum is accessible, familiar, and has some highly useful tooling for this.
Polls
To utilise a living poll in your talk or workshop, simply create a new topic and add a poll to it. These are under the icon on the composer. You’ll then be able to link directly to that post. You can share the link directly, or make it into a QR code with something like qrcode-monkey.com (my favourite).
A safe way to experiment with it is to send a personal message to yourself. If you like your poll, you can then invite @moderators to the personal message, and they can tweak and set it to publish it for you at the appropriate time.
Detailed instructions on polls are here:
Dynamic notes
It is possible to get one or more participants at your session to write notes together using the Shared Edits functionality in real time:
To do this, establish a wiki topic, and ask one of the @moderators to make it Shared Edits (maybe by ‘flagging’ the post). Then share the link, and put the post up on the screen.
Your participants will be able to edit it in real time, and the changes will appear on your screen.
Collation of resources
Simply create a topic with some resources and invite your participants to post the resources they know of as replies. Easy-as!
Questions
While it is probably better to use conference app functionality for questions (if available), you can also use the Forum for this if you like.
Just use a normal Topic and invite replies / questions. There isn’t a specific mechanism at present to support this, but something fancier can be added if needed
Afterwards
After everyone has headed off on their merry way…Follow-up
Your participants will be able to continue to access the dynamic and shared content afterwards - and ask any lingering questions. Don’t expect too much though - people don’t tend to do a lot of looking back and reflecting on event content!
Feedback
You can poll any participants who interacted with your Topic(s) for feedback using the mechanism above in the same topic - they will already be automatically connected and thus notified.
Exposure
Those who missed your session may well stumble across your content when they search for a related topic - and make contact.
