Overview
Dates are great in Discourse, particularly across timezones.
Simple Dates
You can add these to any post using the Insert Date / Time button under the +
in the composer bar:
In your post, you’ll get a dynamic date which works across timezones.
The markdown for it looks like this:
[date=2025-06-12 time=12:00:00 timezone="Pacific/Auckland"]
Events
Events are a great way to schedule things for people connected by the eHealth Forum.
To add your event, ensure you are logged in and simply hit the + New Topic
button; Create event
is under the little +
icon.
Who sees your event
Events posted in Events are visible on the wider internet. If you need something a little more private, you can change it to a more restricted Category when you create the event.
Editing your event
To change the Title, Category, Tags, or Location of the event, edit the Topic Title by clicking on the little pencil at the end of it:
To edit the event details, use the 3 dots in the top right of the event post:
Be aware that all RSVPs will be wiped if you change the date or time of the event
Getting it into people’s Calendars
While people can add the event to their calendars (via the three dots ), this is a step too far for many.
To ‘force’ it into the calendars of others:
-
Add the meeting / event to your own email calendar via the three dots
-
Edit this event in your email calendar and add the relevant people
- you can use the email list from your eHealth Forum group (@admins can set this up for you)
- it is usually better to manage RSVP in the eHealth Forum, so everyone can see it easily. To do this, make sure you turn off RSVP responses in the Outlook event and ask people to RSVP on the topic.
Calendar(s)
We’ve got a calendar of all eHealth Forum events, accessible via the Sidebar.
This displays all events across the Forum that you can see and access (including private events).
Other (bespoke) calendars
Topics or Categories can have their own dedicated calendars. This can be helpful for specific use-cases, and requires @admins to help you set it up. If you think it might be helpful for you, request it on this topic.
