AMA2019-10-18: 'Everything You Wanted To Know About Using Discourse But Were Afraid To Ask'

In our first ever Digital Health Networks Ask Me Anything session, Marcus Baw, also known as @pacharanero, our resident Discourse wrangler and member of the Digital Health Networks communities, will answer your questions about getting more out of our forum platform.

If you’ve ever wanted to know how to get from being a new community Lurker, to a confident Networker, then here’s your chance.

We’ll cover everything from hands-on ‘how do I do… X’ to more general discussion about how to make your first post, how to use formatting to make your replies better, and how to bring friends and colleagues into the Networks.

You will need

  • half an hour to spend in the AMA session
  • a computer or tablet that can open Discourse in one tab, and the live stream in another tab
  • a Question!!!

Yes, we can create a thread like this for each AMA

I hoped you liked that half-rhyme there

You know this is editable? We can set it to whatever we want.

Here’s an example of a quote

@john_lockley will get an email notification about this

Of course! Yes please. It would work with anything. Webex is dreadful!

Yes very topical!
I think they have already bought Kahootz!

I think I seem to have been cut off. It was hard enough getting connected to Webex in the first place, so if there are any other questions I’m happy to answer here in Discourse.

I think it’s this one that @joe_mcdonald is referring to

The simplest way to switch off all notifications is:

Works on both desktop and mobile

There are also controls on desktop and mobile, accessed via user preferences (avatar top right, select preferences then email)

I’m afraid Shera that you might have received an email ‘ghost’ - it was a while back that we did that Discourse walkthrough.

You might find these tutorials on Discourse / the DHN helpful though:

Yes this is my fault that the thread got bumped and notified out to people. I moved it to discourse-tips from an old category which we never used, as part of some ‘Discourse Tidying’ we are doing as the Digital Health team.
