We are planning a workshop for the end of August to discuss how we as a sector could better develop, deploy and manage algorithms - the conversation is less of a technical one and more about how we use or could use them. This is particularly important in the context of machine learning (where generally we can’t see or understand the reason the algorithm works). It also ties to a ministerial interest in how we use algorithms currently and some thinking we have been doing around how we might do this in the future.

Key output as a result of the workshop are some principles, tools and case-studies for how these might be used. Attached is a draft agenda for the day. We plan to run this in Wellington but conscious not everyone can attend and we are limited in capacity. For that reason we are prioritising sector attendance, and we are engaging with Scott Arroll (@Maree_Reid) on industry attendance.
