Telehealth Experience so far

Hi Karen, apologies I’m on clinical duty. I would suggest that you involve Pat Kerr who is our PM for the NZTLG with a wealth of knowledge. I will email you.

@KarenDay here is Pats address:
Pat@telehealthnz.co.nz
It would be good to consider any future work in the context of the NZTLG survey. :+1:

Thanks Ruth. I know Pat well. We’ve done research together before – will be nice to have her on the team again.

Hi Karen,

Do you mind if I add some requirements to consider (and join the call)? We’ve learnt a lot trying to deploy solutions, but we have found the reality of the situation on the cold face is quite different. We’ve asked around if others have experienced the reality, but rather than anecdotal evidence, it would be good to have a robust study.

Yes please join us Samuel. The meeting time is now 1pm and here is the link (same as before)

Good discussion today about the proposed research.
Present: Inga Hunter, Karen Blake, Greig Russell, Samuel Wong, Pat Kerr, Karen Day
Suggested invitations to join the team: Maori/Pacific Island researcher, Janine Bycroft (KD to extend invitations), general practice representatives. If you missed this meeting and you want to be part of the team, please let us know.
Discussion

  • Research question focus is telehealth experience of patients/consumers/clients of primary care services. Still to refine the question.
  • Literature review to be completed
  • Build a survey. Possible question domains: demographics, usual access to/use of digital tech, process for accessing telehealth apt (patient journey), what telehealth experience was like, would do it again, other questions to be established from lit review.
  • Ethics application required. Prob low risk.
  • Recruitment: via GP practices, College of GPs and other appropriate organisations. Need clinical champions.
  • Survey timing: as we transition from lockdown
  • Possible research funding: not discussed. To be investigated.

Next meeting: TBC - next week.

Thank you for your support for this research. Please let me know what input you would like to provide.

Thanks for capturing all of our discussion @KarenDay.
Keen to contribute to this work.

I’m interested in the survey design and providing input into the lit review.

Cheers,
Michael

Are you keen to pursue a single ‘type’ of interaction or multiple types i.e. advisory (GP) versus therapeutic (allied health community services)?
B

We’re looking at multiple types all services in primary care, incl allied health. Still working out scope. Your input will be appreciated.

Happy to help. To echo my supervisor, keep it tight and answer a single, simple question well. This seems sage advice given the potential scope, finite time and limited resources to deliver some benefit.

I see there is a similar ( or the same ) research project in social media based out of Wellington campus of Otago University

Thanks Grahame. Could you please tell me who is leading this so that I can get in touch and make sure we’re researching a gap rather than duplicating what others are doing? I’m also aware of a project at AUT that falls outside our research question but with some minor overlaps - will give more detail once receive permission to share.

Auckland Primary Care survey

Thanks Grahame. I have come across this one. It focuses on the providers’ perspectives.

Hi @KarenDay we are being local surveys of patients and clinicians
post our rapid transformation in virtual health at NMH I would be happy to be involved in supporting the research project. What I would say is that it would have been great to be able to point both clinicians and patients to a National survey that could be completed instead of multiple services creating their own. Maybe there is such a survey out there that I am not aware of.

Too right!!! There is a big void here, and a window of opportunity. @KarenDay, what is your timeframe?

Has anyone got good Quality Assurance connections which could help co-ordinate this?

Agree that a national survey would be fantastic. We are starting to roll out our formal program next week so would be keen to get a survey too! Thanks for the group working on this as it will benefit us all.

The NZTLG have done a DHB wise survey last year, it’s on the website. We are currently looking at a wider one in conjunction with TAS.

There is also a recent Regional stocktake @sari stocktake via HSL. Hopefully you have been in the loop with that one.
