There are various national and binational surgical audits which collect data. These include:
Colorectal audit
Breast audit
and various others. Often DHBs will have their own surgical audit system as well (eg scOPe in Christhchurch or Otago Clinical Audit in Dunedin). Depending how it is set up, data often has to be manually entered from the clinical record into and audit system, and then sometimes re-entered from a local audit DHB audit system to a national or bi-national system.
I have heard there may be a move to try and link up all the national audits into a common system. Does anyone know about this or who is working on it? It may be a private provider working on it - I’m not sure.
Otago Clinical Audit has a BCCA extract (along with extracts for other national/binational audits e.g. ACHS) that we run and upload directly for many of our clients.
Let me know if you’d like some more information on it!
I understand that there has been recent cabinet approval to develop a case for investment to improve data collection and access. I would think that CILN will have a hand in guiding that. Early days yet I am sure but hopefully if it comes to fruition we will hear more about this soon.
