Some thinking about how we might help people manage their COPD
Love a good wireframe. ADHB are currently trialling this. They have been working with the vendor which is UK based to tailor it for NZ. https://mymhealth.com/mycopd

Thanks @Federico_Herrera_ADHB - I wouldn’t take credit for it being a good wireframe ![]()
Interesting, do they have any integration plans?
Also links to the mPR (mobile pulmonary rehab) reseach that Robyn Whittaker and NIHI are undertaking. Good learnings from focus groups and pre pilot.

Cool - this came from us thinking about what services we need to enable after you can “view” your medicines. We started with the boring functions of new and repeat prescriptions. This then made us think at 90 degrees to medicines to think of the opportunity in patient groups where they need to actively manage their medicines - other examples I have thought about include:
Heart failure - diuretics - weight
Diabetes - insulin - needs HBA1C
Asthma - inhaler - Peak flow
VTE - warfarin - INR
Hi Jon, These initiatives are really interesting. Two aspects which I am sure you’re thinking about…Data - the data is everywhere and not linked up. Any app like the ones suggested needs data from several sources. e.g.INR - can done at pharmacy with no obligation to report result to primary care, peak flow - no digital data at all, immunisations options expanded to be given at pharmacy - how is that info transmitted to NIR and back to primary careCervical Smears - same problem as immunisationsThe patient. What we need as patients is information. there are lots of apps that record and present my data - see my comment about that in Patient Portals thread. The data on its own has limited value to most patients. How do you turn it into information for a patient?
I think it is really interesting to see these initiatives from MoH. Without a requirement for vendors to adhere to recognised standards the sorts of apps you are thinking about are much harder to develop than they should be…
Vendors have tried to do the same thing, but the above data issues have meant they have (mostly) had limited success. It will be really interesting to see how you overcome them and hopefully that will open the door to others being able to have the same success.
Yep agree - we are interested for the very reason you raise - these haven’t progressed because the data hasn’t been joined up - this is the premise of the national Health Information Platform - we are completing the Programme Business Case for Cabinet at the moment.
One of the things that has been proving to be difficult is describing how the infrastructure approach we are taking (like the UltraFast Broadband initiative) is going to directly affect care. These examples are how we are starting to think about that and we want to progress some of these ideas with partners to help show how the programme is enabling these types of solutions.
Just FYI-we fund Health Navigator to review apps and here’s a link to what they’ve done so far on COPD.
