Should we utilise gamification here in the eHealth Forum?

I confess that I removed all of the gamification elements quite early in the eHealth Forum’s history as it seemed at odds with our demographic and goals at the time.

I do wonder if it might come in useful (if done gently and unobtrusively) as we seek to gather in a wider pool of digital health interested people over the next wee while.

What do others think?

Hi Nathan,

I’m pretty anti-gamification. This is a discussion forum, not commercial site trying to entice new engagement with customers to get more money or eye-ball time, or even the more gentle “learning encouragement”.

I firmly support it all remaining disabled…

cheers,
K

Kudos to you @NathanK for your Duo streak. I reached 1020 days this morning. Nothing worse than a blue day …

No kudos deserved (was @alexsecurichair), but I rarely miss my daily Pokémon Go check-in!

The eHealth Forum does serve well as a discussion platform. I know gamification does improve engagement in other areas.. did you have any ideas on how it could look?

There is a basic gamification system build into Discourse (i.e. our platform) which rewards simple actions on the eHealth Forum. We’ve got a small number active, which you can see on our Badges page. Here are a few:

  1. New User of the Month
  2. Autobiographer (completed your profile)
  3. Certified (did the bot tutorials)

There are a bunch more that can be activated. There is also a Gamification Plugin which can take this to a whole new level, but I’ve never really looked into it:
