Setting your Avatar and User Profile for better engagement

Avatars

It’s always nice on forums when you can see the avatar images of the people you’re talking to - it helps people communicate more effectively and freely, people tend to feel more comfortable because it humanises the interaction a little more. There is some evidence that users with a real avatar get more engagement - reading of posts and replies/interaction.

I’d like to encourage people to set an avatar by going to https://ehealthforum.nz/my/preferences/account
It’s up to you what you set, but in general it’s preferred for people used a selfie or face picture as opposed to a slogan, flag or other image.

User Profile

On the same page https://ehealthforum.nz/my/preferences/account you can also set other details such as your Full Name.

Using the Profile tab (https://ehealthforum.nz/my/preferences/profile) you can also add some ‘About me’ text, which can be anything you like - general information about you and your Cawood community roles, links to your business, other profiles elsewhere, or you can simply leave it blank.

There are several other fields which you can experiment with in the Profile area.

Your user preferences is an area where you can set lots of other personalisations around how Discourse works for you. I’ll do another #forum-tips post with some more details on these in the future.

Tricky… I have asked them to try to stick to real head-shot photos for best results. So a prize for the best one would be basically a Networks Beauty Pageant… could end badly :grimacing:

Second thoughts - let’s totally do it
