New features for Clinical Portal - please vote

Ok - let’s try a different poll - which if these features (that we have asked for) would you also like to see in Clinical Portal?

  • NHI search in patient banner - like the search at the top of this forum
  • Option to Pin the left hand menu open
  • Hover over on Tabs - DIFFERENT - to what is written there
  • Worklist to display FULL list by default - not just the “top 10”
  • Worklist to be able to reset to sort by date added
  • To sense if being used on Laptop (WOW/COW) and move to smaller banner to allow more vertical space
  • Expand ALL for the folder view in the CDV
  • Increase highlight of patient record in focus on the query
  • Reduce whitespace created with “dynamic” windowlets
  • More badges for Careplans, Alerts, Problems
  • Immunisation status on Banner
  • Sex at birth and Identified Gender on Banner
  • Facilitate quick jump function on the “thin grey line” down the left hand side
  • Auto collapse the previous side tab when another one is open
  • Allow a way for database names to stay consistent when forms update

This is really worthwhile - please everyone who uses the Orion clinical portal take the poll! It will provide very helpful ammunition for achieving changes that matter for clinicians.

If anyone else has an idea for an obvious clinical improvement to the portal then post it here.

I hardly use the portal as it’s only useful if my patient has been in another (Midland) DHB. So far I’ve been pretty unimpressed and was recently shown progress notes and rather disappointed :frowning:

Where I’ve worked recently (Dunedin, Auckland, Birmingham), the clinical portal has been a vital part of the EPR for local patients as well as those from other places. This is what makes it powerful when linked up to others.

If you don’t use the portal for your ‘normal’ patients then I can see that it would be unexciting and a bit tedious. What do you use instead, @Ruth_Large?

Well… the Clinical portal is useful in certain scenarios, for sure. But the true power of it, is that for the first time we have a Midland-based repository. This will be the foundation for the next steps of EHR. I hope…

Hi Nathan. We use clinical workstation and have our own developers thus we have a pretty reasonable local rendition. Our clinical portal is read only at the moment and pretty slow… I’m hopeful it will get there but like I say not too impressed with some of things I’ve seen so far.

Ah, you mean this:

From what little I can see online, I would call CWS a tailored GP portal into secondary care. Whereas the clinical portal you refer to is the secondary care one - tailored for secondary care users. I’m not surprised that it isn’t much good for you!

I would have thought that the only way forward would be to redeploy your excellent developers towards making a GP view of the Clinical Portal - so that it becomes the default go-to for GPs for day to day work (ie supplanting CWS). And also contains other DHBs as a bonus. Otherwise you will be stuck with one system for local patients and another (more tedious one) for distant ones.

I believe that SDHB has done this exact thing, with good results - please correct me if I’m wrong @damon and @nigelmillarnz!

Edit (3/2/2019) - @Mat has educated me that CWS is in fact an Orion product which may well be the same product that Southern DHB is using.

Ruth - how about you and I organise a Zoom - what I can see on the “CWS” is pretty minimal compared to what we have organised here - the BIG difference though - is, as Nathan has hinted at with his “tailored GP” comment.

Done a lot of work on the “inbox” concept in our clinical portal - the ‘admin’ side of clinical medicine - the sign off of results, reports, letters - consistently amazes me when I get this lament “I don’t want to sign off all those results” and I sit there wondering “why did you order them then?” - but that aside - having “one place” where you can find all your work, one place to “view” and “do” all together

Would be nice to compare what you have with what we have - and then ask how we increase the “view” around the nation in a way that does not introduce a “count the clicks” problem!

Sorry, been a little distracted (Ironman in 2 weeks, eek). Yes please let’s zoom.

MCP (Midland Clinical portal) is an Orion product. CWS is already accessible by our primary care providers and community healthcare professionals such as midwives

Coming late to the scene and the bite button doesn’t work sorry.
