The health reforms being attempted in Saudi Arabia come on top of 30 years of investment in health IT, particularly in the public sector. To fix our systems from the bottom up, from clinical systems to national platforms, will require a similar level of investment per capita. Yes we can make the best of what we have, up to a point, but we need to set the expectation that this will require some “big cheques” to be written over the coming years.
