Microsoft Teams had major technical issues from 2024-01-26T14:55:00Z→2024-01-27T01:30:00Z. This seems to have been worldwide.
It was clearly very well timed for Aotearoa NZ and Australia, and therefore I suspect that few people in our digital health sectors even noticed.
This highlights that highly complex communication tools (like Teams) have risks of significant outages, and that being connected to a large worldwide service doesn’t mitigate this - and may increase the risk.
The lesson reinforced for me is that critical communications tools require functional alternative channels which utilise different technology / providers.
