Hi team - an oppourtunity to feedback/understand a bit more on the direction of travel for Hira programme!
Invitation to Participate in Research
About Hira
Hira is a te reo Māori word that means ‘to have a significant bearing on future events’, or to have a ‘widespread effect’.
Hira will be the connector of people’s health and wellbeing information – like the medicines they are on, the vaccinations they have had, and their lab results. It will enable information to be pulled from different systems to create a single view.
Benefits of Hira
- Hira will enable health information to be delivered to all New Zealanders where and when they need it, and allow people to have better access to their own health information.
- Health care providers will be better supported to make care decisions, because they will have access to a person’s virtual health record, when they need it.
- The digital health industry will have opportunities to use information and services in new and innovative ways, and to trial new approaches to delivering health services.
- Better information will help policy makers, planners and researchers to improve equity and system performance.

About this research
An essential part of designing and delivering Hira is ensuring that we understand the needs, barriers and aspirations of healthcare providers and the work they do. Connecting with you and understanding the challenges you face not just with technology, but also in your day-to-day work, will enable Hira to deliver value that better meets your needs.
As this project gets underway, we are speaking with people like yourself to understand what this project needs to deliver to improve access to information for healthcare providers. As a healthcare provider, you have a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience that will play an integral role to the success of Hira. Qualitative research, in the form of semi-structured interviews, is a great way to surface insights and provide you with a channel to contribute to the project.
The core things we want to understand are:
Who you are, your role, your work environment and context;
How you collaborate with other providers, and if there are any barriers you face, and;
How, when and where you interact with patient information and technology.
As well as helping us test our hypotheses and assumptions, your insights will contribute to the development of other artefacts that will enable us to design with the needs of healthcare providers in mind. The interviews are semi-structured, and flow as more of a conversation - you won’t need to prepare anything for it. Your personal information will be securely stored, and your conversation will be de-identified to those outside of the core research team.
We have made a booking system with a range of times and dates that we hope will be suitable for you. If not, please get in touch and we will work with you to find a suitable time.
