How to cross post to Health Forum NZ

@NathanK Can you explain how we cross post to healthforum.nz? Think this conversation would be well received especially in GP group
Grahame

You highlight an issue we have, Grahame. At the moment we must simply copy and paste, but it would be very good to have a durable and easy solution for this as many of us are across both.

They are in seperate instances of Discourse. This means that they are somewhat silo’d. It is possible to copy / clone posts / replicate posts, but it would have to be on a read-only basis to avoid corrupting either instance.

The simplest solution would be to move CiLN including (all the users and posts / history) to HFNZ. This would maximise our connections to our NZ non-informatician colleagues. The price would be a partial dislocation from the international (ie UK) informatics community, but this could be mitigated in several ways. This is how it can be achieved (would require the wizardry of @pacharanero and some tidy-up, but looks straightforward)

When discussing the prioritisation of our connection with international informatics people or NZ ones at the @nz-ciln-advisory level, we have tended to go with local. Both have value, but it seems to make sense to make the easier connection the local one.

Yep, this is an interesting one.

There is not yet a solution to the problem of keeping threads in sync across different Discourse instances. You can cross-post and this is probably the best way since it actually forces a human to think about where is best to cross-post to.

You are right that maybe at some stage it would make sense to move the bulk of NZ groups over from DHN to HFNZ, maybe leaving one NZ section on DHN for the international collaboration discussions. And you’re right that Category export and Import could be used to do this. You would be wise to ensure that all users on DHN were migrated over to HFNZ, although the Import process would create any ‘missing’ users as a Staged user.
