Hira Healthcare Provider Research

In case you haven’t already seen this…this research was done for the Hira programme but may be useful for other work happening. The purpose of this research was to understand how improving digital health information would help health care providers deliver better care.

Summary

This document presents the results of research conducted in 2023 to understand the needs and challenges of healthcare providers in Aotearoa. The research was led by me, and facilitated by the Digital Enablement and Engagement Team. In-depth interviews were the primary data collection methodology used. The research aimed to understand the experiences of healthcare professionals in accessing health information and the impact this has on consumer health outcomes.

This research:

  1. identified key groupings of healthcare providers based on their functional roles within the healthcare system

  2. identified the barriers to delivering healthcare outcomes, including trust, cultural alignment, language, and access to care

  3. developed personas for each group to demonstrate their needs and challenges, and created current and future state scenarios to show how these needs and challenges might be met by enabling a comprehensive view of consumer health information.
