Hello
The HiNZ NI SIG is wanting to extend the group to include Midwives.
We are interested to know whether or not Midwives would be interested in joining the group, which of course would involve a name change.

Yes I believe that Midwives and nurses experience similar issues and use similar systems, so we should partner on this. We would need to change the name of the Group to represent this though. Is there any chance that opinions could be sought and collated from out side of this thread as well.

I forwarded your email to a midwife colleague and she replied that the link embedded in the email doesn’t work, which I checked and it doesn’t work for me either. She suggested that you send this message to the NZ College of Midwives NZCOM

I agree. Some of us are trained as both nurses and midwives (esp those from other countries), so it’s a logical inclusion. I’m both, so we have midwives in the group already.

I am a registered midwife and it would be good to see this extend to midwives. As you have mentioned it would be essential to change the name to include midwives.

Thanks John. Yes, we have already talked about the fact that we will need a name change. The HiNZ NI (soon to include midwives) will talk with our Midwife colleagues and sort this out. Thanks!

Hi all,
I have spoken to @KimMundell , and HiNZ can support a rebrand should the group become inclusive of midwifery. While I appreciate there are professional differences between nursing and midwifery, we are more alike and can support each other to progress informatics for the benefit of all New Zealanders. I am very supportive of us collaborating, and do not see value in creating another silo with a discrete midwifery informatics group.
@elf as another fellow midwife what are your thoughts on this?

Agree completely. Collaboration is key and multidisciplinary thinking will help us in this space. We have so many silo’s as it is - it really is about collaboration.
