Hi everyone, I’ve been asked by a clinic in Auckland if there is a product out there that handles recording of patient patient consent. At the moment they email a form. The patient has to print it out (often they don’t have a printer, scan it (or take a photo), return it by email. Alternatively they use snail mail. Then the office need to scan it and record it in their records. I presume there is also a fax option.
Are there any common options out there that can be used my the myriad of different technology skills of patients in NZ.
Presumably cloud based and secure with data stored in AU or NZ that doesn’t require add ons or apps to be downloaded.
This is a great idea! Precision Driven Health is looking into research in this space with the idea to develop a way of tracking patient consent for sharing data, and enabling this to change over time. @Mirza_Baig and @Rosie are helping to shape where the research could go.
I’m not aware of any common options out there right now but I would sure be glad to hear if there are any!
REDCap eConsent for clinical research

You can use eConsent to conduct and record consent for remote participants, or for participants in clinic on tablets or other touchscreen devices. Participants will be able to sign the consent form electronically with a stylus, mouse, or finger and submit it to the study team. Once the consent form is submitted, the participant will receive an email that includes a PDF attachment with a copy of their signed consent form.”]
Fillable PDFs may be a good/fast/cheap option as they offer the patient a digital and paper-based option - the IRD uses this. Also, they can be pre-populated using batch scripts. But how about using a robot to automate the end-to-end workflow? The [[tag:9879388160]] solution would mimic everything the human worker is doing now i.e. 1) Assessing the patient consent (even if handwritten), (2) Scanning the record and (3) Adding the record into their records. Once a digital consent product* has been found, the robot could be easily adjusted to work with this. It would also release plenty of human hours and the robot could be scaled up/down subject to patient demand. Happy to chat - our CoE is helping lead RPA at Auckland DHB.
I’m also looking at digital consent and social licence in my role. Which will include the opportunity to collaborate with Mirza and Rosie - we’re shaping up the mahi now Happy to kōrero.
If you haven’t found the right solution please connect with me as we have a cloud based platform that can provide the solution as well as enable any sized organisation to adapt, deliver and monitor digital care plans to become personalised to an individual using any internet enabled device.
@MarkCox - I thought of you when completing this NDA with Automation Anywhere just now. Once signed, I received a copy of my NDA by email. Would this work as an MVP solution for a patient consent form? The patient could then forward a copy of their completed form to the clinic where a bot could easily pick it up, and process it further i.e. attach it to their patient records. Adobe is HIPAA compliant, more info here.
@parag
Looks interesting technology and easy to use. When we looked further into the issue, signoff off of consent forms was just one of the many areas of patient engagement that was needed. I connected @susanbinks into them. I hope she has made progress.
