- HEALWELL AI has entered into an agreement to acquire 100% of the shares of Auckland, New Zealand based Orion Health Holdings Limited (“Orion Health”), a subscription license and services revenue business serving marquee public sector clients globally with data interoperability and healthcare navigation products and services.
Yikes! That is quite a change in the NZ digital health landscape, and will likely have quite an impact on the relationship between Orion and the large health providers here in NZ.
It will be most interesting to see how this pans out. Certainly a dynamic sector at the moment.

I’m not sure of the relationships between the companies, but this somewhat explains their interest in an NZ-based digital health org:
We were just saying the same here. Wondering how this will change the relationships we have with Orion locally and nationally as well as the change this might have on their presence in NZ going forward. Could go either way and depends on the position of the parent company and their perception of the viability of the NZ market.
Wow, that’s big news! I hope this results in turbo-charged innovations.
that will be an interesting change.
2025 is going to be an exciting year that’s for sure. It’s early days with this acquisition not expected to become final until March/April. I’m personally very encouraged from what I know including Brad Porter remaining as CEO. If history is anything to go by, just as with Intrahealth, Orion will continue to be led from the Auckland head office with ongoing commitment to our NZ customers. Healwell also bring class-leading AI expertise to healthcare that should benefit the existing Orion solution portfolio.
Feel free to get in touch if you have specific questions and I will try and assist.
