Hi ![]()
Would it be possible to develop a standard for growth charts to be integrated into EHR software?
In General Practice it’s quite hard to track growth because the growth charts can vary in quality. Particularly in the paediatric population.
Please let me know if something like this already exists!
Thanks
Melanie
Hi Melanie,
This one is free and open source and one of the most used growth chart apps from Boston Children’s Hospital. Good thing is it is fully based on FHIR and integrates readily with EMR systems with no or little effort using the SMART-on-FHIR framework. Hope it’s useful for your needs.
Yup, this is a longstanding problem with several possible solutions.
You’ve probably seen this from a few years ago:
I’ve not seen the Boston one before (thanks @atalagk). US data of course.
@barry.taylor - have you had any progress on the local front?
I wish I could report on progress - I can report stalemate! We continue to have at least three different growth solutions across NZ. Lobbying for a single national system has gone nowhere and the idea of a single tool that integrates well child data (plunket), primary care and secondary care data which would be a win win for everyone, has not progressed. I am working with Southlink clinical solutions to develop something like that but not there yet.
I have just looked at the Boston app and it looks better than many though I still like our own “anthropometrics” all age solution best and note that this is used throughout the south island and some lower North Island regions as well. As the data sits in one place, it can be accessed by local and distant specialists who consult on the patient.
Certainly, one of the first questions asked clinically about any child is “how is s/he growing”.
thanks heaps for the feedback ![]()
