After some early digital efforts that didn’t gain much traction, I’ve had some success this year leading the development of an AI agent that identifies potential ACC treatment injuries directly from discharge summaries. It’ is beginning to improve our ability to detect harm, lodge claims, and quantify both reimbursed and unreimbursed costs—offering a clearer picture of the true impact of treatment injuries.
To my knowledge, this is the first time discharge summary analysis has been used in this way within Health NZ. I’m keen to connect with others exploring AI in clinical or operational settings—especially in smaller hospitals.
