I am interest to hear what other DHBs are using for elective surgery bookings.
For this purpose, I’m defining the process to start with the elective surgery booking form completed by the surgeon in out-patient clinic when the surgeon and patient first dedice an operation is required. (Arguably you could extend this back to when the GP referral is first made, or even earlier, but I’m restricting this for now to keep the problem focussed)
Currently at SDHB we are largely using a paper based system for this. An electronic system could begin with this booking form, and may include a number of other functions as well as links to other systems. For example it could include:
- Surgical booking form
- Management of surgical waiting lists
- Communication with anaesthetic pre-assessment clinic and other pre-op planning systems
- Assist with planning lists for elective theatre
- Assist in creating operatoin notes
- Assist in gathering clinical data for QA purposes
The scOPe system currently used in Christchurch covers many of these functions. I’m interested to hear what systems other DHBs are using. If you are able, please reply to this post with whatever of the following you are able:
- What system your DHB is using to capture the surgical elective booking form
- What range of functions it covers as well as capturing this single form
- What other systems it links in with
- What you see as any advantages or disadvantages of your system.
Many will be familiar with the scOPe system in use in Christchurch. I’m interested to hear about experiences with this as well as other systems that may be in use.
Thanks for reading this far!
