eAllied workshop in Rotorua next week

Kia ora koutou,

We are looking forward to seeing many of you in Rotorua for our eAllied Workshop on Tuesday next week. There have been some late updates to the planned timings of the day, so please ensure you have downloaded the conference app to see the most up-to-date schedule.

For one of the planned sessions, we will run a workshop-style discussion exploring “What does clinical competency in Digital Health for Allied Health, Scientific and Technical Professions mean in Aotearoa New Zealand.” To get you all thinking about this, we wanted to share some resources with you in advance. Coincidentally, there was a great thread on the eHealth Forum a couple of weeks ago, and several different competency frameworks were mentioned in the discourse:

Faculty of Clinical Informatics (UK): Core Competency Framework for Clinical Informaticians

Outline and critique of FCI framework published here

SFIA list of competencies/skills: SFIA framework overview (less focused on clinical health informatics)

CHIA framework: Health Informatics Competencies Framework

There are some other articles that might be of interest that our Aotearoa-based nursing colleagues have put forward:

Examples of Clinical Informatics competencies within Nursing scope of practice (HiNZ articles):

Domain 4

JMIR nursing article: Education into policy: Embedding health informatics to prepare future nurses – New Zealand Case Study

We’ll frame the discussion around Benner’s “Novice to Expert” concept, so take a look at that if you’re not familiar with it.
