Dental Informatics Working Group- IMIA

Kia Ora,

This is an invitation to join the newly formed dental informatics working group run by the International Medical Informatics Association. It is a space for international collaboration for dental informatics research and networking, anyone who is working in or has interest in oral health data and technology are welcome to join. This is a description of the group by the group chair Dr Neel Shimpi:

"The proposed working group will focus on dental and oral health domains. Oral health is considered as a mirror of overall health. The past few years have witnessed a rapid growth in the field of dental informatics, creating new surge of activities in dental and medical care. Recent evidence oral diseases have been shown to have bi-directional association with systemic diseases. For example patients with diabetes have a risk of getting gum disease and vice versa. Mounting evidence also shows the relationship between poor oral health and its stimulation to various cardio-metabolic risk factors leading to promotion of cardiovascular diseases and increased mortality. Development and implementation of several dental informatics tools can help in holistic dental as well as systemic (medical) healthcare delivery.

Since it is vital that we continue to expand this domain of dental informatics, the working group proposes to encourage active participation in planning group projects such as webinars, program submissions, writing manuscript that showcases the significance of dental informatics, facilitate networking opportunities and identifying other similar opportunities."
