CiLN data tidy-up; please contribute!

We are all pretty au-fait with how vital it is to have good data, and to utilise and share it appropriately. Well, we aren’t doing brilliantly in our own backyard here in Discourse. Let’s fix this; please take a few minutes to tidy our data that we have about you here:

https://ehealthforum.nz/my/preferences/profile

It is very hard to work out our demographics as a group and how this is tracking (although @RMcBeth has done a great job deciphering our data mess), and it is too poor for organising events. Additionally, it makes it hard to interpret our polls effectively, or pull together sub-communities from regions.

To this end, I’ve spend a lot of time tidying up the data fields in the whole Digital Health Networks so that they meet the needs of the UK as well as us. This has been in place for several months, but only for new users.

There is scope to improve this further, and utilise this data more effectively; do make suggestions! CiLN belongs to you all, and will be as good as we all make it.

Done. Took a few minutes. Might take others longer if they still have to provide a photo and write a bio.

What is ‘profile header’ and ‘user card background’ and should we try to do something with them?

If you want to get all fancy and have pretty pictures pop up (Facebook style) when people look at your profile, then go for it. I’d disable it if I knew how to!

Done!

Like the inclusion of working clinically as a new field

Nothing fancy needed but I do think it’s easier to converse with someone if you know what they look like, or an avatar/image that they
want to use instead.

Done - not much to update

Thank you to all who have updated their data; we now have good solid data on more than half of our 321 members. We hope to use this to have accurate metrics on us to promote CiLN, empower our polls, and facilitate local networks.

I’ve just send out an old fashioned email to those who haven’t quite managed to do theirs as yet.

I reply to my post, I was asked the following question by one of our members:

Why do they need our cellphone number?

Good question. The thing about data is that it is super-useful (when accurate), but there is plenty of opportunity to abuse it. It is vital that we are open about our use of it, that we (CiLN and the DHN) are trustworthy with it, and that you trust us with your data.

In this case, we are hoping to use your phone number to power the “Batsignal”, which was setup in the UK following WannaCry as the NHS’s comms systems (eg telephone calls and emails) were woefully inadequate. Batsignal simply sends SMS’s out (powered by Discourse) when needed. It isn’t active for NZ yet, but seems like a good idea. The other uses are to facilitate communication when email/Discourse fails, and to enable the rapid creation of functional regional networks and meetings.

If you really don’t want yours in there, just put ‘no thanks’ or similar in the field (I’ve made this clearer on the form).

If anyone has any further questions about the data we ask for, please fire them back.

I am excited at the potential integration of technology into the delivery of health care and equally frustrated by the slow speed at which it is being integrated. And how.

I have no informatics qualification as yet and my IT knowledge is self taught
I am on the Nursing informatics board in Austraila and a member of HINZ NI

Hi Judy
Nice to hear from you.
Thank you for engaging with the forum.
Many of us are self taught in NI with a passion for it as well. There are many courses available however if you want to formalise your knowledge.
Great to hear from you
Emma

Done! Thanks Nathan.

Hi Judy
Self-taught and experience always count, but if you did want to know about educational options the Health Informatics NZ (HiNZ) website has an overview (https://www.hinz.org.nz/page/UniversityEducation)
Always wonderful to see another nurse passionate about informatics!

Welcome, Michelle

Thanks for encouraging replies.
I am currently locked down and into WA with the restrictions imposed by COVID 19.
I am encouraged by the meteoric acceptance of telehealth to cope with consultations during the restrictions.
I am also confounded by the return to pen and paper to check sttaff wellness each shift and countingbof PPE
There is a move to voluntarily download a track and tracing app that is being met with concerns about privacy, not to mention the fear of a potential to lead towards greater surveillance.
My education is currently clinical, upskilling to ICU and immunisation, but thanks for website links.
Talks over here are forward planning the conference next year.

Hoping to get back to NZ in the not too distant future, be great to get to the conference in Hamilton later this year.

Take care

Bye for now
