primary care data
Coding for primary care seems to lag behind modern thinking .
Medtech 32 uses version 1 of Read Codes for " diagnostic classifications ’ this is from somewhere in the 1960s / Smoking cessation data is based on poor statistics and the data is difficult to extract from the Ministry and its advisors even people who would be expected to know . Frequently data is distorted for economic purposes by vested interests . As well reports are not easily stored and retrievable from the Ministry .12 years of smoking reports from Whanganui PHO and ministry advisor Dr John Mcmenamin have been used to inform the stop smoking funding from the Ministry since 2016.currently $10 Million annually. However the outcomes of the services since are difficult to extract from the Ministry and the stop smoking services . How can transparency and ease of access to the data be improved?
