API platform - NHS Digital

I’ve just seen NHS Digital’s API platform demonstrated. It is very impressive, and will soon have a Discourse forum as part of its offering for a solid help & feedback functionality.

Where are we at here in NZ on this front? It would seem to fit in nicely with Hira for the practical integration of the excellent stuff they will be sorting over the next few years.

Hi Nathan, I saw your post about having a demo of the NHS APIs. How did you wrangle that? if possible I know a few people who would be keen to have the same demo, so if you’re happy to share a contact that would be awesome.
Ngā mihi, Andrew

It is up and running - I’ve just attended a session on it at the Digital Health Summer School in York (UK).

Yes, I can connect you to the right people in NHS Digital for it, but it will take a bit of chasing. Will get back to you.

This looks amazing . . . and they were able to go “from start to go-live” in 7 months, to set up the API management platform. Yes, this seems a great project to learn from. I also am confident “they” will be interested in Hira and no doubt there are things they can learn from us  Thanks for highlighting this mahi, and I’m sure @BeckyGeorge and the Hira team are interested, and probably already aware.

This section of the webpage I found particularly helpful:

Our guys in Hira Core Design have already been in touch  - they have made the existing NHI available …just as we are doing now.

Nathan,

Have you come across NEMS?

I’ve heard of it but haven’t had any personal contact with it.

It is essentially the opposite of an API, in that it is initiated by the data holder rather than the requester.

I guess this might be helpful for quite a few use-cases but don’t really know.

The place to ask about it is on discourse.digitalhealth.net - they will let you know if it is any use!

I last looked at this 18 months ago, so forgive any out of date comments. NEMS is interesting in that some of the notifications are clearly FHIR subscription oriented (which Hira will be able to support in time), whereas other are clearly not. The address change service is postcode based!
