AI robots carry out 3,000 care visits a week for vulnerable people

I’ve just read this article which was published yesterday. Has anyone come across this yet?

To summarise:

  • Cera is deploying assistive robots to support elderly and vulnerable individuals in the UK, completing 3,000 care visits per week.
  • The robots stay in users’ homes, reminding them to eat, drink, and take medication while collecting health data for care teams.
  • Data insights help identify when interventions are needed, reducing reliance on in-person check-ins.
  • Multiple robot models are being trialed since January 2025.
  • The robots aim to enhance traditional caregiving, reducing loneliness and supporting staff shortages in social care.
  • AI-driven predictions and monitoring help optimize care delivery and reduce NHS costs by up to 80%.
  • They assist people with dementia and memory issues by reminding them of family events and social visits.
  • Cera’s AI platform processes 200bn patient health data points, improving robot decision-making.
  • The initiative supports local authorities, allowing human carers to prioritize complex cases.
  • NHS England has adopted Cera’s AI to predict fall risks with 97% accuracy, potentially preventing 2,000 falls per day.
  • The company has not disclosed the number of robots in use or their deployment locations.

I think the concept is very good although I’m not too sure how a cognitively impaired individual would respond to having a robot in the room without it being too distressing. But for those who are would be open to it, I can imagine it has many benefits.
