It is indeed a good (if slightly biased towards FHIR!) response from someone in the thick of it. And it highlights the good things of digitisation really well.
He is right that widespread use of FHIR APIs does promise to markedly improve data sharing with patients and other carers. Personally however, I believe that we need to go one step further and base our systems on agreed open standards - OpenEHR.
I am a little out of my depth here, but to my eye FHIR is great at translating stuff which is in EPRs and making it accessible. OpenEHR, widely implemented, would make FHIR unnecessary because the data would be directly accessible without translation.
Yes it was a great article which highlights what many of us clinicians have been saying for a long time. Itβs a great call to action for more clinicians to develop skills in human centred design, usability and UX. I was able to complete several papers in these topics throughout my masters study and there are also numerous options available through learning platforms such a Udemy.
I have numerous articles in this space that you can access in this folder.
