2nd call for NZers to join the NZ DHN Summer School contingent - July 2019

I’m delighted to report that a New Zealand contingent has been formally invited to attend the Digital Health Summer School this year. The details:

It is being held on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July 2019, at Leeds University, overlapping with the Hack Day (which is on Wed 17 July). This started as an annual gathering of CCIOs, and has grown to embrace Health CIOs, CNIOs, Allied Health, and Future Digital Leaders. It is open only to those on the Digital Health Networks (ie all of us), and is widely considered the most valuable event in the sector.

All NZer’s are being offered a bursary (total £90), with the proviso that we run our own session at the meeting. Anyone who attends will be welcome to join a tour to visit some of the leading lights of the UK Digital Health scene after the conference (last visit Fri 26 July). Accommodation is provided.

The weather is as good as it gets in July, and with school holidays not yet in full swing it is an excellent time to visit the UK.

  • I’m keen as mustard and could probably make it
  • Sounds great, I might possibly get there
  • Sorry, but there is no way I can go

I attended the UK Digital Health CCIO/CIO conference in 2016 as part of an Aus/NZ CISCO study tour. While digital health opportunities and challenges tend to be common across the world the similarities between the health systems in England and NZ mean that there is a lot of common ground - more so than in the US for example - and a lot of common technology suppliers. That helps set the context for shared learning’s and engagement at the CCIO/CIO event.

The CCIO/CIO event I went to was well organised as a combination of presentations and related round table discussions and the format encouraged active discussion, feedback and networking rather than just a series of presenters which worked well. It was well attended by CCIO/CIOs from across England and I’d recommend attendance for those who have the opportunity (while recognising that it is a big time and cost commitment). Combining attendance with other visits is probably necessary to justify the commitment.

Ok so this looks like such a good opportunity. I’ve just looked at the logistics and sadly can’t make it as I come back from hol on the 16th of July and no flight will comfortably deliver my brain in a state that would make it worthwhile. Unless I flew business of course

2 posts were split to a new topic: Ruth and Nathan’s private little chat

The NZ contingent visit to the Summer School, with associated visits to some of the UK centres doing exciting things in digital health, is coming together nicely.

At this stage we are visiting:

  1. NHS Digital HQ
  2. West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust
  3. Bolton NHS Foundation Trust
  4. University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust

If any other Kiwis on the DHN would like to join us, there is still some space.

If you would be interested in hosting us for a visit, please get in touch with me.

Thanks David; I’d really like to take you up on that. Connecting up primary and secondary care is just as challenging and important in NZ!

Thank you Masood; I am the Digital Health Fellow at UHB, and would love to see your good work up close personally as well as explore a NZ group visit.

Are you still looking at visiting Salford with the vendor neutral data warehouse? I think that would be interesting in the current NZ context.
