Well said Ruth. The Ministry needs to stop half-arsing nationally relevant things like electronic special authorities and prescribing, outpatient coding, electronic growth charts. Saying that we should have these everywhere and they should have certain features and capabilities, but they wont put a cent into it and it’s up to each DHB to make their own solution, is to me incompetence of a high order. It meets ludicrous ideological and budgetary goals, while ensuring inconsistency, inefficiency and chaos. Some things just need to centrally mandated, developed and rolled out for the best consistency with widest reach. The ideological mantra needs to change to equity, rather than some twisted free enterprise, ‘let the market decide’ nonsense, in these specified cases.

Yes, well said Ruth. I’m the CEO of a Wellington based software company that offers relevant solutions and believe that we are sitting on something that could be really helpful in this space. I’d love to be part of the solution to these problems, but it is not easy to get engagement with the DHBs …
