Should We Make A "Smart" NHS?

Article outlines the use of IoT in healthcare but the ideas for implementation are not new. Feels a bit like going round in circles? Opportunities for our NZ industry?

Lots of IoT telemonitoring-type programmes reporting back these days with impressive outcomes. Several great examples at recent Australasian Telehealth Conference and UK no doubt also has very many. Over coffee the programme leads say that the “whole of patient/whole of system” benefits delivered are not yet recognised under the siloed funding in whichever district, so their models of care remain outside of core services. If the use cases build up sufficiently, perhaps the dam will burst? Perhaps the natural place for health IoT is to sit above catchment-based funding? In NZ we could start with an investment case - what would we invest in digitally-enabled models of care to improve outcomes by x%. Sounds simple (when you say it quickly) but rarely addressed.
