SDHB Seeking new Clinical IT Solutions for the New Dunedin Hospital

Some users of this forum will be aware that a new hospital is about to be built in Dunedin. With a price tag of around $1.4 billion it has been stated that this is the biggest health related building project in NZ’s history.

In conjunction with the New Dunedin Hospital, there is a significant spend planned for I.T. This inlcudes not just the infrastructure required for the physical building, but also for clinical systems.

As stated on the New Dunedin Hospital website, the new technology will assist with improving efficiency and enhancing patient and staff experience. It is also expected that new digital clinical systems will help support the whole Southern Region in addtion to the physical New Dunedin Hospital in itself.

We are currently doing a formalised market research exercise (Request For Information or RFI) to use a structured approach to determine what solutions are currently in the market which could assist with our Digital Transformation. As stated above we are particualarly intersted in any solutions which assist with improving efficiency and effectiveness of care. This includes solutions which can assist with New Models of Care, such as delivering healthcare closer to the patient’s home outside of the physical hospital building.

If you are aware of any clinical solutions that can assist with this, then we are interested to hear, either by replying to this post, personal message, or inviting the vendor representative to respond to our RFI. This can be seen on my Linkedin post below or on the GETS system (link also below).

Please note though for any vendors who want to make submissions on the RFI, they should communicate directly with the procurement office via the RFI process, rather than with other DHB staff directly.

Also note, this isn’t the actual procurement process. A further RFP (Request for Proposal) will be issued in due course for procurement.

Hi Damon,
Healthcare Compliance Solutions Ltd (HCSL )already supply electronic health records (full clinical management, quality and risk Benchmarking) via their patient management software to several aged care and mental health residential services in Dunedin including Maniototo Health Services.

This is integrated with Medimap the electronic medication administration software. Current integrations are also underway with Medtech GP software. If you want to know more or think it is aligned with putting in an RFP as part of the new ecosystem, please let me know.
Kind regards Gillian

Hi @gill
Thanks for your interest and your post. It would be great if you could put these questions to Renee Gaston who is managing enquiries on the RFI. Her email address is on the GETS page via this link: https://www.gets.govt.nz/SDHB/ExternalTenderDetails.htm?id=24400833

In general we are seeking input on a wide variety of clinical solutions. You will note in the RFI documentation that we are wanting to uplift the clinical IT systems for the whole of Southern DHB so our interest extends beyond the physical New Dunedin Hospital building.

Also note, this is not an actual RFP at this stage but rather an RFI (Request For Information). This means that purchasing decisions will not directly be made on the basis of the RFI. The RFI is intended to inform us on what current market capabilities are as we move to the next stage of planning for the project. There will be a subsequent RFP in due course.

Hi Damon

I read your post and will respond via the GETS process in regards to SDHB IT proposals for the new hospital. Medi-Map is a medicine management solution used widely in NZ and Australia and we have primary and secondary health organisations using the platform. We use very granular data, NZULM, NZF and have eScript certification. We would like to respond with some further info which I will do online
Many thanks
Greg Garratt

Hi Damon
