Last Tuesday 12 projects were presented at the Govtech afternoon. Although there were no specific presentations for health, there were a number that we can take learnings from or even work with some of the prrojects to see how it could benefit health. To see the variety of presentation go to https://llgovtech.co.nz/govtech2018/ For each project there is also a contact person if you would like more info
Interesting - Brenda I was there and we worked with the Community Connect team.
What learnings did you think were most relevant for health?
For what it’s worth, I thought the presentation standards were high this year and all made clear cases for their projects.
I sort of wish a couple of them said ‘and we’re not going to build another app we’re going to leverage an existing one until our work is more progressed’, but that’s an aside.

For me the Youth Voice project was of interest. If there is platform created for meaningful engagement with youth them health could utilise this for a number of initiatives.

Josh, I think there were a few for health to think about - as Eileen said the Youth Voice is something that health need to consider for consultation and along side that was the Marama project - both really about getting the voice of the community more involved in the decision making. I think the identity project for enroling for super is something we need to also look at. The fresh water project is one I have already past on to the Public Health team for the to make contact. I to was invovled in the Community Connect project and within that project health could benefit in a number of different ways. The other projects which had a wider benefit for health would be the Spring and Safer sooner projects. Would be great to hear your thoughts

well I’m biased, that I was attracted to Community Connect- they mentioned direct approaches to deprived families (knocking on the door) weren’t successful. Digital exclusion is a big issue to me as a technology person.
I do think it’s worth separating out the projects that are really ‘how do we roll out a policy idea’ from ‘this is a proposed project delivering some sort of value through using our services’. I think the latter are more relevant in an accelerator model as some of the policy teams are really pitching or validating the case to policy decision makers.
