Patient reported data reducing outpatient clinic visits in orthopaedics
At the recent ETIH conference in Christchurh recently one of the talks mentioned how electronic patient surveys were used following hip and knee replacements. The results were used to determine if they needed follow-up clinic appointments or not.
Can anyone remember any further details from this or a link to the original study? Was it in NZ or elsewhere?
Yes - you could talk to @susanbinks from SHI Global they are working with NHS trusts on this. Another couple of places to have a look are:
(Pre-Hospital) https://health.ebsco.com/products/option-grid
(Post-surgery) http://erassociety.org/
These are getting quite big followings in the UK and Ireland.

Our results from working with an NHS Trust has been that including pre operative as well as post operative electronic patient surveys as part of a personalised patient care plan not only reduces the number of outpatient clinics but has also enabled a 10 -12 % increase in the number of surgeries using the same infrastructure and staff resources. Happy to discuss.
Which Trust?
Hi Nathan The South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - annually 1,380 hip and knee replacements at James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital.
