Unsure who has any clear context and understanding on this new player in our patient held record market and PMS environ.
Exciting concept and Patient in control which is a step forward but
Any thoughts from forum and potential impact we need to consider
Easier said than done around the accuracy of information and ability to distil it in one place for the patient. Itâs an invitation model so hard to tell how many users are likely to embrace such a model.
If Spark Health is pitching their solution as equivalent to Hira, then thereâs a sizeable problem.
@SamuelWong
In reading the product advert it is my observation rather than their assertion of equivalence to HIRA . They are seemingly suggesting a comprehensive view of all patient data across multiple systems as I read it . Suggests potential APIninto testsafe , HealthOne etc but perhaps an oversell and my vivid imagination
What is it you perceive they are offering ?
Thanks for engagement

From speaking with the Spark Health folk at the Leadership Summit last week, it seems the intent is to leverage all that Hira offers (as it becomes available) rather than replace it in any way.
Put another way, this is a front end patient facing product. Hira is back end enablement.
I was impressed by their UX first approach, which doesnât seem to be very well done in any of the incumbent patient-facing portals / engagement systems which I have come across to date.
Thanks @NathanK - certainly on the right track. Kete Waiora is a personally-held health record developed by Get Real Health. Weâve worked with GRH to implement in New Zealand for our local requirements. Spark Health runs our implementation our in our own data centres, in-country and can ensure control of data and physical security.
At the backend we will interoperate with Hira (once available), NHI and a multitude of other sources. In the front-end, the UX as Nathan mentions, we also integrate with personal sources of data. For example Garmin Connect, Apple Health and Google Fit.
The iPhone/Android app or web interface provide access to the personally-held health record or delegated access to the records of your whÄnau other people that may depend on you such as children.
We also have an integration engine (Tahi) that can power up integrations and custom data management.
@benwalkernz Thanknyounfornyourninsights. So this is a patient portal in effect capturing data from
Patient first and foremost via self input or digital tools at their disposal and then perhaps some input taken from say a GP PMS that can be sucked into the kete presumablybwith patient and GP consent . Are you able to currently also bring in testsafe views or HealthOne for example as well or will that be something HIRA does for you and then you create a visible instance of the Hira data as a proxy on to the patient via the kete Waiora
Thanks
Hi @grahame.jelley - The primary use case is actually the reverse. We are working with Medtech, diagnostic lab test providers and other providers of health information using NHI number as the âprimary keyâ. In the backend of Kete we have database that will store a copy of the requisite data. I beleive there may be cases where we may not cache the health data but provide a lookup, perhaps via a locator service. We can integrate with Hira as and when required, and it is quite possible that data may come via Hira.
The additional functionality that may seperate us from a patient portal is the ability to utilise secure messaging, Telehealth (i.e. video/audio conferencing), alerting from clinician/health provider to/from patient/customer (eg based on step count, activity or other data).
There is also a health provider portal which allows for a similar view of health data, as consented by the patient.
The other thing to note is that we can customise the experience based on the use case but maintain the same database of health data in the back end.
Hi Ben
I will reach out directly through the site as I am working with Te Hau Ora O Ngapuhi Maori health and social provider and looking to innovation and Whanau led care

@grahame.jelley I think that you should have a conversation with @jim.brown.nz about the whole concept of shared care / community care. Jim has a wealth of knowledge around current innovation in this space. Cheers.
Interesting project - Iâd be keen to know more about how it is different from existing patient portals (eg MMH also offering video consultation, messaging) and how alerts are being managed. What process is/was in place during development for stakeholder involvement and (ethical) technology assessment? How do you deal with integration of non-medical data (eg step count, heart rate etc via phone and other devices), the interpretation of this data and the management/responsibility? Any ideas on funding models from the providersâ side? I think these will all be important topics in the next 5-10 years with increased patient involvement and shared records, but also quite challenging.
Hey Tania. Iâm going to bring down the product owners for Kete Waiora and Tahi (integration engine) on the 26th for Digital Health in the South. I see you are attending. Thatâll be a great opportunity to have a chat about all the aspects that you may be interested in.
