Functional design and solid foundations: Thank you Rebecca for sharing this article. A quick Google will show numerous articles that talk about how innovation needs to be built on top of solid foundations to reduce the impact of innovations failing. As we design the new house, we need to describe the required functional design and the ‘flows’ expected. By foundations I mean solid clinical and non-clinical information system(s) at the core to support everyday workflows, and the infrastructure needed to support them.
I agree with @rradecki when he talks about the fragmentation that has resulted from the “slow and meandering” approach taken to date. This approach has been haphazard with no clear evidence of an overarching design. I believe that first and foremost we must agree the core functional design.
