People have been suggesting robots for helping with caring for older people for a while but they have never been good enough yet. Perhaps we are now at a stage where this is becoming more feasible.
Two videos that might be of interest on this topic: The first is Chris Whitty who is very concerned that we are not prepared for the coming population demographic change. The second is a what I think is a pretty creepy video but demonstrates that humanoid robots that we can talk with are just around the corner (it feels like sci-fi). It think they made it deliberately creepy for publicity but the technological advance is real I think. The company behind the robot has just been valued at $2.6bn with new funding from Microsoft, Intel, Jeff Bezos, NVIDIA and OpenAI.
