The first Covid-19 lockdown drove an increase in the use of electronic ordering for lab tests. Alongside this, a national clinical data repository (CDR) for all Covid-19 test results was created by ESR and Sysmex as a repository for all Covid-19 test results from labs across New Zealand. This made it easier for information to be made available for the intelligence reporting that ESR provides to the National Health Coordination Centre. They should go the whole hog and put all the labs that medical practitioners do into a single repository instead of having them siloed into different laboratory websites.

For me the answer is : both. The good thing is labs can send (exactly the same data) to multiple destinations without issue. A National repository for information sharing and the full picture for all of the country but the local repository because the localisation can be tailored to suit the scale of operation, workflow, the technology of the laboratory and the population.

I totally agree. I just found out we have six local copies of the lab data across our systems. So that can do with some work as well while we are at it.

Great webinar, thanks to all the participants - if you missed it you can now view on-demand https://webcast.hinz.nz/Mediasite/Showcase/ehn_live2020/Presentation/88fbf01b6cb946d0a903ff3bee3f82e31d

Thanks rebecca for the link.

@bev I was interested in your section on electronic lab ordering (around the 9 minute mark on the webniar link).

As you may know we are beginning to trial this in secondary care at SDHB in our Telehealth group. Some questions on how you use it in the hospital setting:

Do your clinicians in the hospital have to log in separately to the SCL Eclair system or can they click through from the Orion clinical portal (Health Connect South) in patient context (without having a separate login and requirement to re-enter the NHI)?

Have you needed to roll out much education of clinicians on this in the hospital setting and how have you organised the change management for this?
