Please find attached a Clinical Informatics Position Statement, developed by the Clinical Informatics Leadership Network (CiLN) and Health Informatics NZ.

Clinical informatics is an emerging discipline within our clinical workforce in New Zealand. We believe that more needs to be done to promote the value and benefits of having clinical informaticians working at all levels of the health system.

Clinical informaticians enable the evolution of health care through the application of their body of knowledge, clinical experience, understanding of health outcomes, and application of evidence based practice.

The CiLN Advisory Board prioritised the development of a position statement to support the position of clinical informatics in New Zealand. Position statements are used to provide guidance, propose recommendations, educate patients/consumers and their family/whanau, inform decision makers, and strengthen the views of all health and technology professions regarding this emerging discipline.

Our position statement has been developed by a small working group of CiLN members, including collaboration and consultation with the CiLN community (more than 360 members nationally), a review of literature on clinical informatics, and with consideration of the health system of New Zealand.

It is our intent that this position statement will strengthen the position of clinical informatics, supporting greater investment in dedicated roles to support the success of data and digital initiatives. We also call for increased training and professional development across all sectors of the health workforce to support a digitally literate and capable health and disability workforce.

We are proud of this position statement, and hope that you will share it across your organisations to help explain and promote the vital role that clinical informaticians contribute to our health system.

Me mahi tahi tātou mo te oranga o te katoa We are working together, for the wellbeing of all.

Kind regards,
CiLN Advisory Panel & HiNZ

Awesome! Can’t wait to see the uptake and reaction off of it.
I wonder if you thought about including NZ IT Professionals (itp.nz)?

AI Forum NZ might benefit from seeing this too, as well as other small high tech orgs that congregate healthtech people. Just a thought.

Cheers.
