Are there any Clinical Coders or HIMs out there? I’m trying to drive CDI-awareness nationally, start a group etc, and share resources. I’ve only nailed Auckland so far ![]()

If focusing on the strategic and conceptual from a population or public health perspective, very much yes. If your meaning to focus on the tactical and process aspects of individual patient care, not so much.
Well, we need to fix that!!
Very happy to help on the community platform side of things - would be great to have some digitally savvy clinical coders well connected to the rest of the sector as it is a vitally important part of the digital health ecosystem.
What are HIMS?
I think strategic yes Greig. My aim is to drive CDI-awareness at a national level. Our CDI programme is only small but it can easily be upscaled; assuming that it’s of real-value of course. The outcome of our work should be an improvement in data integrity, due to improved clinical coding. However, I have not been able to fully understand the facets of the NMDS, roundtable data to see what extent, if any, the programme has.
For example; over the last 2 years (@Auckland City hospital) we have worked on recognising, documenting and coding "Poorly controlled diabetes- E1166 in ICD-10-AM. But, what impact did this have, what does this mean, could it have potential on a national level if this data improved across the mutu? Obviously, I can measure that we have seen a 50% increase but I’m trying to figure out th enext step!
We’ve have linked with Nikolai Minko, Data Scientist @ NZQSCommission too.
Health Information Managers. Typically sit with Clinical Coders, health records, with data & privacy remits.
